The Prospect Ten

Strikethree.com's weekly ranking of prospects and/or minor-league systems.

This week: The top ten left-handed starter prospects.

Name Radar Readings Organization Age
1. Ryan Anderson 94-98 Seattle 22
Before surgery, was best prospect in the game. Still has ton of potential.

2. Brandon Claussen 90-93 New York Yankees 22
An Eric Milton/Andy Pettitte type. Isn't that far from Yankee Stadium.

3. Carlos Hernandez 89-93 Houston 21
Baserunning shoulder injury shouldn't be a problem. Needs to develop changeup.

4. Corwin Malone 90-94 Chicago White Sox 21
Took a big leap forward in 2001. Possible slump in 2002, but bright future.

5. Mario Ramos 86-90 Texas 24
Rangers hoping this soft-tosser ends up as a Denny Neagle type.

6. Ty Howington 89-93 Cincinnati 21
Made big strides, but still has a long way to go. Expect a rough year in 2002, but don't give up on him.

7. Mark Phillips 90-94 San Diego 20
Very raw, but power arm and big curve are intimidating. Needs experience, won't be rushed.

8. Erik Bedard 88-91 Baltimore 23
Doesn't have the highest ceiling, but could be a nice third/fourth starter who can eat innings.

9. Jimmy Gobble 88-92 Kansas City 20
One of the more underrated pitchers around, Gobble could move up this list fast.

10. Eric Cyr 88-92 San Diego 23
I'm sorry, I just can't get over the fact that he's a pervert. So I'll say nothing nice about him.
